#11 MANOHAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, MOPA, GOA

BUDGET

Between 1 crore INR and 4 crore INR (More than USD135,000 but less than USD540,000)

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Designing & Implementation of EN complied IP based PAVA system along with Integration with Fire, Automatic Flight announcement system. Mopa Airport (Now, Manohar International Airport) happens to be the 2nd Airport for the state of Goa. Situated in the dense greenery area of the Northen Goa.

It’s a Design & Build project wherein we had to take into consideration not just the speech intelligibility, necessary Loudness levels and zoning in all areas but also redundancy for both passive cabling and active components like controllers and amplifiers.

Areas covered were Passenger terminal building, CFRM, CFRS & Utility building. The system now is tested, commissioned and working smoothly and reliably since the inauguration by Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 DEC 2022.

What did the client want to achieve?

Client wanted to have a reliable EN Complied , IP Based PAVA System with following salient
features and capabilities –

1) Speech Ineligibility of >0.5 and SPL levels of 80-85Db in all areas through Active Line arrays, Wall mount speakers, Column speakers, ceiling speakers etc.
2) Automatic Noise sensing
3) Call stations with zoning announcements
4) A/B wiring and Hot Redundancy for active components like Amplifiers & Controllers
5) Integration with Fire and AFAS
6) Centralised Monitoring through GUI
7) Seamless Integration with Interiors through speaker colouring amd custom mounting arrangements for Column speakers

Scope of work your company was involved in

Design, Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of PAVA System including but not limited to Cable pulling, installation of speakers , fabrications of racks, rack wiring,
installation of amplifiers and controllers, GUI designing , integration with Fire and AFAS,
programming , testing & training.

What key challenges were faced?

– Since its an IP based PAVA system and multiple control rooms – integration with IT backbone was a challenge
– Being a greenfield project ,Timeline to complete the project was very narrow i.e 8 Months.
– Installation of Active Line Array speakers through custom mounts on columns.

How were those challenges resolved?

1.To overcome Integration with IT, we created a detailed a list of nodes on field (for call stations and Active line arrays) and various control rooms. We deployed our senior IT technical team at site to coordinate with Cisco team to creates VPN’s and had to
troubleshoot back an forth to set the system right.

2. To meet the deadlines, we had to work in 3 shifts and deploy multiple teams to ensure work is happening parallelly in different areas. We were mindful of taking approvals much in advance and set up demos for approvals as needed well in time to
avoid delays
3.Installation of Active Line arrays on Aluminium cladded columns had to be done meticulously with precise custom mounting brackets such that it merges seamlessness without any gap in the aluminium cladding. All nuts and bolts were
painted to ensure there is no corrosion for a long time.

How has your work helped the client?

1. PAVA System is an integral part of any commercial space specially an airport and is a mandate.
2. Background music system in all areas enhances the experience of the passengers
3. Announcements are an integral part o such huge transport hubs and helps communicating with passengers on flight announcements and emergency announcements as needed.
4. Integration with Fire alarm system is very necessary for evacuation purpose in case of an emergency.

What are you most proud of in relation to the project?

1. Got to learn many things, new technology & team work.
2. Accepting the challenges.
3. Achieving the goal in less time with hard work & commitment.
